En 1991 nace en Ushuaia Tierra del Fuego NUNATAK ADVENTURE, una empresa cuyo fin es el de acercar a sus visitantes al magnífico patrimonio natural, mediante un producto diferente “el contacto con la naturaleza Patagónica”. Desde nuestra constitución, el Trekking ha sido la actividad que más hemos potenciado conjuntamente con el esquí de fondo. A esto le fuimos agregando nuevas y atrapantes actividades como Off Road 4x4, canotaje, kayaking, mountain bike, avistaje de fauna y flora. En invierno ofrecemos una multitud de aventuras emocionantes, las principales experiencias para compartir son: paseos con trineos de perros tirados por huskies, paseos en moto de nieve, trekking con raquetas de nieve y Off Road 4x4. Trek to the Laguna Perdida (Lost Lagoon) Duration: 7 hours Hours spent trekking: 3 to 4 hours Activity involved: Trekking Minimum number of passengers: 2 We collect you from your hotel and drive you to the Tierra Mayor valley, 20 kms from Ushuaia. We shall then start our trek from the Nunatak shelter, we shall cross peat bogs and lenga (tall deciduous beech) and cohiue (evergreen beech) forests which have been standing for hundreds of years. We may be lucky enough to sight foxes, condors and beavers. We shall enter the heart of the Fueguian Nature and Landscape reserve when we reach the Laguna Perdida. The colour of the water, the surrounding landscape and its position; surrounded by the Fueguian Andes, is and invitation to stop for lunch on the shores of the lake. Finally we shall start back to the shelter and later to the hotel. Cost: Trek to Ojo del Albino (Albino´s eye) glacier Duration: 8 to 10 hours Hours spent trekking: 7 to 9, this is a demanding trek Activities involved: trekking and ice trekking Minimum number of passengers: 2 This outing includes the trek to Laguna Perdida, but we shall then continue climbing to reach the Lake’s main affluent, the Ojo de Albino glacier. Upon arrival at the glacier we shall be greeted by the amazing spectacle of ice and mountains. We shall then fit our crampons and begin exploring the glacier, arriving at the Beban lookout where we will stop for lunch. We shall then continue our trek stopping at different panoramic points of impressive beauty. Finally, we shall return to Nunatak shelter and from there to the Hotel. Cost: Trek to the Alvear´s caves. Duration: 8 to 10 hours Hours spent trekking: 7 to 9 this is a DEMANDING trek Activity involved: Trekking Minimum number of passengers: 2 Equipment: waterproof clothing and a helmet. We shall collect you at your hotel and drive to the Tierra Mayor valley 20 kms. from Ushuaia. The trek starts from the route, we shall start by climbing the foothills and crossing dense lenga (tall deciduous beech) and cohiue (evergreen beech) forests. This first leg will take us to the ridge where the vegetation gives way to rocky soil. We shall enjoy beautiful panoramic views along the way and end up at the Alvear´s east glacier. We shall approach the lake to find a huge opening in the glacier, which leads to an ice cave. We shall enter the cave that is 100 metres deep and have lunch in the cave. We shall then visit the turquoise lagoon and start back. When we reach the starting point we shall head back to the hotel. Cost: Trekking & Canoeing in the National Park Total duration: 8/10 hs. Trekking: 3 h. Canoeing: 1 1/2 h. Minimum: 2 pax. Meal: cold snack, creole steak, fruit, sweets, drinks (wine, juice, tea). The minibus will leave from the hotel and drive towards the National Park. Once at Ensenada Bay, we will have time to enjoy the beautiful view of the Beagle Channel and later start trekking along the coast. These seven kilometers of wild trail will render possible contact with native flora and wild fauna of the channel besides the opportunity of discovering old indian middens left by the ancient dwellers of the area, the yamanas. In 3 hours we will reach Roca Lake where lunch will be ready. After a hot meal we will start canoeing along Lapataia river, which will take us to the end of the tour, Lapataia Bay on the Beagle Channel, precisely where the Panamerican Highway and National Route 3 end. Return to Ushuaia on minibus. Rate: $ Lake Journey on MTB Total duration: 8/10 h. Bicycle: 2 h. Canoeing: 1 ½ h. Minimum: 2 pax. Meal: cold snack, barbecue, fruit, sweets, cereal bar, drinks (wine, juice, tea). The tour will leave from the hotel and drive northward 60 kilometers towards the lakes, a land of beautiful and wild landscape. Once arrived preparations will be made assigning mountain bikes and casques to the participants, who will receive a short briefing before leaving. Fun will then start riding along a wavy trail that ends on the shore of Fagnano lake, the biggest of the area and 110 kilometers long. The trail goes on through the forest and on top of cliffs providing beautiful views of the lake. Once the group reaches the camp, barbecue will be waiting and of course “mate” will be offered to those that want to have a try. After lunch the adventure goes on, this time on a smaller lake, Escondido. Wearing life jackets we will canoe crossing the lake up to Petrel Inn where we will meet the minibus that will drive us back to Ushuaia. Rate: $ 4WD Lake Journey Duration: Full Day Canoeing: 1 1/2 h. Tour: 4WD Off Road 4x4 / Canoeing Minimum: 2 pax. Meal: cold snack, barbecue, fruit, sweets, cereal bar, drinks (wine, juice, tea). The tour will leave from the hotel in the morning and will drive along National Route 3 towards the lake district to reach Garibaldi Pass from where we will be able to see our targets: Lakes Escondido and Fagnano. Following old woodcutter trails the Land Rover allows us to reach sites otherwise impossible: forest, mud, rocks. Fagnano lake will surprise us with its size and landscape. This part of the journey ends at a camp where a barbecue will be offered. While the meal is ready one can walk around and discover the wilderness of the place. After lunch the second part of the tour heads towards Escondido lake, smaller than Fagnano but a place of great beauty. Once the canoes are ready we start rowing amazed by the view we have from the water. Around an hour journey separates us from Petrel Inn, in the coast of the lake, where our adventure ends. A hot drink at the Inn and we will return to Ushuaia. Rate: $ BEAVER WATCHING Total duración: 4 h. Hiking: 1 h. Includes: transportation / hiking / cold snack or meal Gear: rubber boots and raincoat Minimum: 2 pax. Departure from the hotel towards Tierra Mayor Valley. Arrival at Nunatak refuge, located in a privileged place with a panoramic view on Alvear Range. After putting on our rubber boots we start hiking. The area is the ideal habitat for those lovable creatures and by crossing several dams we will have the opportunity to watch some of these wild beavers. Hot drinks will be provided. Later we will return to the shelter where we have the option of either having a cold snack or a hot meal (this according to the chosen program). Return to Ushuaia. Combined Adventure programmes. White adventure- Snow and Fire- Snow cat adventure in the Fueguian Andes - 4x4 adventure in the Lake district. White adventure Duration: 5 hours Departure: 8:30 a.m. Activities: trip in a dog sled pulled by Huskies/ hot chocolate at the woodcutter’s hut / Walk with snow shoes. Difficulty: moderate Description: Departure from your hotel toward the Tierra Mayor valley. In this great snowy valley we will start our adventure aboard dog sleds pulled by Huskies, after crossing the valley we shall enter the forest following an old woodcutter’s trail which will lead us through the centuries-old Tall deciduous beech forest to the woodcutter’s shelter ( a small log cabin heated only by wood fires). We will say farewell to the Huskies here and strap on our snow shoes (these are essential as the depth of the snow is normally a metre in this area), our objective is the Alvear Ice falls and the Valley outlook. Returning to the shelter will be faster and much more fun as it is all downhill to the woodcutter’s cabin where we will regain our strength with hot chocolate and cake. We shall then walk back to Tierra Mayor valley with the snowshoes. Snow and Fire Duration: 5 hours Departure: 6:30 p.m. Activities: hike wearing snowshoes / supper round a campfire / return aboard dog sleds or Snow cats according to preference and availability. Difficulty: low Description: Departure from your hotel toward Tierra Mayor valley. We will then strap on snow shoes and start a 30 minute hike, crossing the valley in the winter night; a lantern lit path will lead us through the forest to the hut, where our cook will be waiting for us with kebabs and hot stew cooked over the open fire, mulled wine, wine and the night’s speciality; the “woodcutter’s coffee”, supper will be accompanied by a guitar. The return is according your choice either aboard dog sleds or snow cats. Fees: 1- Snow and Fire with Huskies (snow shoes on the way there and dog sleds for the return trip): 2- Snow and Fire with Snow Cats (both ways on Snow cats, 50 minute trip): Note: If option number two is chosen the guide may alter the order of the activities according to the size of the group, this is not subject to claims by the passengers. Snow Cat adventure in the Fueguian Andes. Duration; 5 hours Departure: 7:30 a.m. Activities: driving instructions / Snow Cat ride / hike wearing snow shoes / refreshments at the Bonete shelter. Difficulty: low On this excursion we will cover a 20 to 30 km circuit, crossing huge snow covered peat bogs and dense forests, enjoying the unique sensation of witnessing dawn from the Snow cats. A unique experience… Description: We shall leave from your hotel very early towards Tierra Mayor valley, where the guide will give you a 30 minute lesson on Snow Cat driving. We will start our journey with the first light of day, our destination will be the Bonete mountain shelter, 10 km away at the foot of mount Bonete, in the midst of the Fueguian Andes. When we reach the shelter, and after a hot chocolate we shall hike for thirty minutes to one hour to reach a panoramic spot on the valley balcony. When we return we shall replenish our energy with refreshments at the shelter and will then return to Tierra Mayor valley aboard the snow cats. Note: we have nine new Polaris snow bikes for this excursion. Drivers and passengers will be provided with helmets. 4 x 4 lake Adventure Duration: Full day Activities: Off road trail around Fagnano Lake / Fueguian Lamb lunch / Snow shoe hike / free time to enjoy other Activities at Tierra Mayor ( Nordic skiing, snow bikes, sleds) Difficulty: Low Description: We shall leave from your hotel along National route 3 towards Escondido and Fagnano lakes, we will cross the Fueguian Andes at Garibaldi pass and reach Fagnano lake by an old woodcutter’s trail. There we shall follow the lakeshore until we reach a panoramic point where we will stop for refreshments. We will then return to Tierra Mayor valley to enjoy Fueguian lamb cooked in the traditional way over an open fire. After lunch you will be free to enjoy any of the activities offered at Tierra Mayor such as snow cats, dog sleds pulled by huskies, Nordic skiing, ice skating or simply enjoying the great snowy valley from the comfort of the hostel.
